It’s no surprise that many of us feel overwhelmed – by our jobs, our family duties, and the constant barrage of media/marketing that comes to us. How do we cope with the overload?
I believe that one way to cope is to focus in on those things that we feel a real passion for. In this way are being true to our ultimate purpose. One of my favorite authors, John Eldredge, put it something like this: If God put it on your heart to sail a boat, paint a masterpiece, design a car, or raise a family, go do that thing. Therein lies your purpose.
If we can align ourselves with our ultimate purpose, with that subset of things that we are passionate about, we will never *work* a day in our lives. Each day will just be a continuation of the dream. Each moment, whether at work or play, will be part of the whole.
The problem, of course, is that our emotions are fickle things. We will have bad days. We will have days when we doubt that we have made the right choice. This is why it is so very important to have good, clear reasons why we pursue anything in life.
It’s also good to have friends – people who care about you and can help to lift your spirits when you are feeling low.
Take care of those people in your life, and get busy following your purpose!
